Foux Du Fa Fa

Since you can't really love fashion without loving the French, I had to share this hilarious Flight of the Conchords song. Unfortunately I only started watching their tv show yesterday (they're a band and do a show). Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement describle themselves as "Formerly New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo". It reminded me of how Aggyness once described herself "a hip hop granny who can hip hop, be-bop, dance till ya drop, and make a yoyo wicka cuppa cocoa" (does that not seem like a more fitting description of Mrs Doubtfire though?!).

Their song 'Foux Du Fa Fa' in the style of a 60s Scopitone music video. Hilariously cliched French nostalgia. If you have a decent internet connection and 2:46 minutes to spare, please watch it!

Being rather obviously indie, they also wear great clothes such as skinny jeans, fitted leather jackets and vintagey/tacky black tracksuit jumpers with eagles on them which you can see here around 8:00 In another song, Bret calls it his 'favourite jersey'. love. I also love Bret too.

Flight of the Conchords, Episode 8 'Girlfriend'

Bret: Do you think I dress too provocatively?

Random Plumber Guy: If I may be so bold, I think you're showing a little too much arm... you look a little cheap.

Bret then proceeds to put on his favourite black eagle jumper

Winter Shoes, Summer Dress

The whole hard vs soft thing Rodarte has going on is my current obsession. When I first laid eyes on this pink dress with vines and buds entwined down the back, I wanted it so badly it hurt. I have a lot of various photos of this dress in different contexts runway, celebrity, backstage etc.. but no collage worked and sort of detracted from the uniqueness.

Charlotte Does Casual

The fut collar, the Chanel pearls, the equestrian outfit, the Chloe wedges...

It's All About Me

My first outfit post! I'm copying a typical Christopher Bailey Burberry look - quilted, belted coat and black socks with heels. I really cannot walk in heels, you can see my ankles going all crazy if you look closely. My very photogenic cavoodle jumped in too, in that photo on the bottom left, he just decided to lie down beside me and rest his paw on my leg!

I really like socks + heels. It's suprising how much more edgy the outfit becomes.

A Princess and Chanel is a Match Made in Heaven

If I could have anyone's life, it would definitely be Charlotte Casiraghi. Firstly, she's a princess (of Monaco). Simply just being a princess would be enough, but theres more. She also has a fabulous jet-set lifesyle and appears to spend most of her time on Monaco's beaches or partying with friends such as Julia Roitfeld in Paris. Thirdly, she and her mother and good friends with Karl Lagerfeld... so take a look at my collage of her various Chanel looks. And yes, she's sitting in the front row *sigh*

The only thing I don't get is how she can possibly look like Bridget Bardot. That's who Karl likened her to. Claudia Schiffer looks like Bridget Bardot, not Charlotte Casiraghi.

More Carlotte Casiraghi collages to come soon! (sources: tfs, google images, charlottemaripomeline.web-log.nl/)

Gaspard + Sonia Rykiel Feather Boa = Heaven

wow what a treat! Gaspard Ulliel on a motorbike with Clemence Poesy wearing some very covetable pieces (Balenciaga gladiators, Sonia Rykiel boa). The moody green setting is a bonus! From Boom Spring 08, via tfs. I assume this is because they're promoting their new film La Troiseme Partie du Monde. It seems I love Gaspard so much I multiplied his face three times.

Perfect Teeth are Overrated

It's like when The Other Boleyn Girl came out and everyone was beause Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson were all pretty at their publicity events. I however, I just adore Keira Knightley and her style, and her new film The Edge of Love with Sienna Miller will bring plenty of great outfits to drool over.

Sienna looks terrible, I actually didn't recognise her in the photo on the right, I thought it was an aging Kate Moss or something. The glasses aren't too bad close up though, but I just hate grey and black stripes, they look way too cheap.

Kiera's outfit is low budget, her Luella-esque top's from Top Shop, but she's wearing florals!! And ankle booties that aren't scary like Sienna's are! And a Pencil Skirt! I would think wearing a pencil skit would be a little too conservative, especially since the Luella blouses were paired with high-waisted minis, but Kiera pulls it off so well. And I love her crooked toothy smile.

The scary ankle boots worn by Sienna,
contrasted with Kiera's nice oxfords (celebrity-gossip.net)

Wearing a jumpsuit here, while Sienna wears a flappy fringed dress Kiera wins again but I like how they coordinated their outfits. (justjared)

The Horrible Cliche

(just jared)

I cringed when I saw the new shoot for Vogue with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman on the set of Australia. It's so predictable and looks more safari than Australian. I guess they wanted to keep it in line with the period feel of the film, but I wish magazines would do more inventive shoots if they wanted things Aussie. At least the shoot is called 'Days of Heaven' and not 'The Great Outback' or something worse.

This is what I want to see more of. These pics aren't all taken in Australia/Australian themed, some were taken in Capri and at Gladstonbury and Jason Wu is there(!), but they have that laidback, endless summer, beach and sand feel. The best magazine for eds like that is RUSSH, but I think it's pretty hard to find if you don't live in Australia.

2 or 3 years on, I still love those Chloe wedges

Zippora! I used to horse ride, but in extremely unfashionable outfits that must not be mentioned on a fashion blog

Jason Wu and Sasha from the lastest W editorial. I don't know about other countries, but sitting on your deck in white chairs is sooooo Australian

tfs, not sure which magazine this came from though. The sad thing is it's winter here and I don't even live on the coast.

I had a paddling pool just like this when I was little (this was in an ed short during the Gladstonbury festival with Gemma)

On a side note, my uncle's brother is this published writer and rewrote the Australia screenplay and he and Baz Lurhmann are friends now and Baz has stayed at his beachouse! Yes it's very sad, I've never met anyone famous so things like this excite me.

On paper or on a hanger?

My copy of 'Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers' is hopefully on its way. While I was reading reviews of it on Amazon I had a look through the picture gallery and immediately recognised that white Philip Lim rose dress... wasn't it so popular it was sold out in a number of days and is no longer for sale?... something like that. The other dress wasn't hard to identify either... I probably waste too much time on style.com.

Which form of the dresses do you prefer? I just LOVE the way Lim draws his roses... but then again, you can't wear paper... or can you?

UK Elle 2006... I remember this issue so well, it was the only thing I had to read when I was in Prague because I bought it at the airport, and then I threw it away because it was too heavy. Robert Ryan, who made this paper cut didn't know a thing about the construction of dresses when Vogue asked him to do paper cut. After he cut out his design, the paper was carefully glued onto the netting of the dress.... wow.

Watermelon pink

"The thing about a tuxedo is that it is virile and feminine at the same time" - Catherine Deneuve
I finally decided to start my own fashion blog after being intimidated by the likes of fashion verbatim's Adrian and red carpet fashion awards' Fashion Critic. It was a kind of rash move while procrastinating, and if I spend any more time thinking up posts I will very likely fail law school.

So right now I'll just comment on other blogs ( I didn't have a google account before) and will start proper-blogging in mid June!

Fashion fades. Style is eternal

“I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes.”

Today one of the most influential and inspiring minds in fashion passed away. Although he didn't invent blue jeans, the Le Smoking jacket is in my opinion, the epitome of modesty, sex appeal and simplicity.
